So, recently moved from Bayside, NY to Astoria, NY. two very different places in Queens. Bayside has little to no parking restrictions, so I'm still getting used to the whole alternate side parking / having to wake up early and move my car thing.

This particular morning, I forgot that I moved my car last night and had a stage 2 freak out that I got towed. Then I stumbled upon my car and remembered my 2am decision.

What apps do you use to remember where the hell you left your car? Also if anyone has tips to parking in Astoria (particularly near Steinway & Astoria BLVD), please help. I fear I might not be able to keep my FoST here for long. I'm already considering a motorcycle for the spring / summer and leaving my FoST at my parents house in Bayside till I need it.

Several things to remember -

Don't block fire hydrants

Don't block driveways/road entrances

READ those P signs twice.

They also have a Twitter account https://twitter.com/nycasp

If it's holiday chances are it'll be suspended for that day.If you have a smartphone, take a picture of where you parked... maybe that would help. Add geolocation to the photo as well.

I just leave my car parked all week then walk 56 blocks a day to where I'm staying -> train -> place of work and back.

I park in my driveway. That makes it easy to find my car. When I did have to park on the street that was the era before smart phones and sometimes I had to roam around the neighborhood for awhile to find my car.

Park the furthest away from the place you're going. That way you can ballpark it.

BTW at the Costco that used to be near me, I'd see some nice cars at the back of the parking lot.

I just have a car unlike anyone else's so it's easy to find. Mind you it's also lower than most others which can make location a bit harder.

Directly in front of our house. Then again I'm nearly 4.5 hours north of Astoria and they won't tow if you park on the wrong side of the street.

I use kitchen window. it's a great app, open the shades and I can see where I parked in my driveway! :P but yeah when i have lived where that was an issue I just always remembered, never used an app.

Reference a feature where you parked to something on your person (eg I see a fire hydrant. Ferraris catch fire. Fiat owns Ferrari. My car is a Fiat. I have a Fiat key.) Just going through that thought process when you park is usually enough to jog your memory when you go back If you consciously think "I'm looking for my Fiat" or even just taking out your key and looking at it.

Always park as close to a specific corner of the lot as possible, that way you just head in that direction until you find it.

In a parking garage, reference the space number to something on your person. (eg C12. 2 nd letter from the right side of my keyfob (lock/unlo C k) and add 10 . Therefore you have C, and 10+2.)

Find some random trick and go through the motions—that's usually enough to stick it in your memory permanently anyway.

I usually park along the same block everyday, but if I'm forced to park somewhere else, I just drop a pin in google maps when I get out of my car.

There are a lot of apps with fancier interfaces, but I like to keep it simple

Shoutout for the twitter alternate side account. THANK YOU. Yeah, I've gotten fairly lucky so far, but I know I'm going to start having problems soon lol.
